Cutting through the rainforest the Potaro River claims the world’s longest single drop waterfall. At 741 feet the magnificent Kaieteur Falls are four times the height of Niagara. Only a handful of people visit each day, viewed from light aircraft, or close up, Kaieteur is an amazing experience. Giant bromeliads line the pathways, the beautiful Cock of the Rock can often be seen in the trees. The million acre reserve of Iwokrama, has been created to help preserve the tropical rainforest. Walk amongst the trees on the aerial walkway and look for 500 bird and 200 mammal species. The nearby Amerindian community of Surama offers an interesting insight into traditional Guyanese life.
