At 979 metres the Angel Falls have the longest total
drop of any falls, in the world. ‘Discovered’ in the 1930’s
by bush pilot Jimmy Angel, the falls are surrounded by dense rainforest
and are not easily accessible. Viewed from the air the long thin ribbon
of water is easily visible glistening amongst the dense vegetation. Short
flights over this wonder of the natural world are possible throughout
the year and offer a great panoramic view of the falls as well as the
surrounding Gran Sabana. During the wet season months of June to October
it may also be possible to travel up river by canoe. This is not an easy
trip, but the reward of reaching such a unique viewing point makes it
more than worthwhile.
