Colourful traditional villages, palm fringed tropical
beaches and bird rich secondary rainforest can all be found around Venezuela’s
oldest national park. Located three hours to the west of Caracas, the
park is home to over 550 different bird species, many mammals and is
a mixture of low and high level forest. Comfortable pousadas arrange
excursions into the park; local guides will escort you on full or half
day walking tours. The higher up you go the sparser the vegetation becomes
and so the wildlife and environment changes. The Caribbean coastline
near to the quaint fishing village of Choroni is the place to head for
if you fancy a few days lazing in the sun.
