Mexico City is a sprawling metropolis, which approaching
20 million people now call home. Capital of the New World, the conquistadors
constructed a model city based firmly on traditional Spanish design.
The result is a historically rich city centre, walk around the well laid
out plazas, marvel at the many opulent churches and cathedrals or take
time out in a traditional café bar. Fifty kilometres to the north,
and with a population approaching 200,000, the site of Teotihuacán
was in its day the world’s sixth largest city. Yet by the time
it was ‘discovered’ by the Aztecs it was deserted and in
ruins. Today the site is still dominated by the imposing sun and moon
pyramids, the former being the world’s third largest. The four
kilometre long Avenue of the Dead used to be lined with grand temples
and palaces and those still standing retain many outstanding murals and
frescos.

Habita

Only recently converted from a 1950’s building, the Habita
is an ultra-modern hotel in central Mexico City. All 36 rooms have a
wonderful light feel; the minimalist design is perfectly complemented
by the clever use of stainless steel and glass. There is a rooftop pool,
Jacuzzi, sauna and gym.
