Comprising coastal and island reserves, Machalilla
is an important wildlife destination. The mainland section of the national
park is famed for its birdwatching, whilst off the coast the Isla de
la Plata is renowned for its Galápagos like wildlife. Every year
between July and September, large numbers of migratory Humpback Whales
pass along the coast, during this time whale-watching vessels depart
to give you a close up of these mighty creatures.
