Ecuador & the Galápagos
Tiny Ecuador is a destination in its own right. Look for wildlife in the Amazon Rainforest, haggle for a bargain in Otavalo or relax at a
traditional hacienda. Then follow the steps of Charles Darwin as
you cruise amongst the wildlife rich Galápagos Islands.

Country Combinations
If you are planning on visiting both Ecuador and the Galápagos then you will need to allow at least two weeks in order to do them both justice. If you wish to extend your holiday beyond this then the logical country to tag on is Peru. Daily flights connect the two countries; it is then only a further hour’s flight to Cusco. Flying in to Ecuador and out from Peru presents no problems. If you fancy a few days lazing around on a beach then you should consider flying with KLM and stopping off in the beautiful Dutch Antilles in the Caribbean.

Climate and When to go
Ecuador mainland can be visited all year round, however the coastal regions tend to receive greater rainfall between December and April. In Quito and the surrounding Andes Mountains, rainfall can be expected throughout the year, September to May tends to be the wettest time. Further east in the Amazon Rainforest, be prepared for hot, humid conditions and heavy downpours at anytime. The Galápagos have a much drier climate than mainland Ecuador, rain does fall January to April however this is usually light.

Getting There
There are no direct flights to Ecuador from the UK. Air connections are available with Iberia via Madrid and KLM via Amsterdam. In addition there are also several daily routes flying through the U.S. All flights to the Galápagos originate in Ecuador, there are daily departures from Quito via Guayaquil, (the latter is ideal if you are concerned about altitude sickness and just want to visit the Galápagos as a single destination).
