The smallest of the Netherlands Antilles, Aruba has
long been a popular stopping off point for travellers between South America
and Europe. Located 15 miles off the Venezuelan mainland, there are good
natural beaches on either side of the island. The majority of the island’s
hotels are to be found spread out along Eagle and Palm Beach on the north-west
coast. Although a popular place for hotel development, the beaches do
not feel over crowded and you still have plenty of space to yourself.
Diving and snorkelling is also good in Aruba. Visibility tends to be
around 25 metres, the coral is dramatic and there are plenty of colourful
fish to look at. To the north of the island is a challenging 18 hole
golf course. Aruba offers you plenty of choice of hotels and has other
activities available if you do not wish to spend all day on a sun lounger.
