A large province in the North-Western region of Canada,
the Yukon is a wild and remote place with a rich heritage dating back
to the gold rush of the 1800s. Best visited during the long summer months,
the Yukon is very much an ‘outdoors destination’. Ideal for
self- driving, the roads are easy to negotiate, just look out for moose,
caribou and sometimes bears along the way. Head north and cross the Arctic
Circle, go west for a visit to neighbouring Alaska or drive south-westwards
and include a visit to the stunning Kluane National Park. Covering a
huge area, this vast park has at its heart one of the world’s largest
non-polar icefields. A naturalist’s paradise this is a true wilderness
destination with a great proliferation of wildlife.
