You are never far from the sea in Nova Scotia. This
island province has more than 4500 miles of coastline and whichever way
you travel you are only ever a maximum of 30 miles from the Atlantic
Ocean. Explore the stunning Cape Breton National Park or immerse yourself
in the province’s rich maritime history and drive along the ‘Lighthouse
Route’. The Bay of Fundy to the north is the world’s most
tidal estuary, twice daily a staggering 100 billion tonnes of water flow
in and out of the bay, often creating in the process an equally staggering
54 foot difference between high and low tide. At low tide the bay is
a wonderful place to explore, fossils can often be found on the floor.
Travel to Nova Scotia during the autumn months and the island is a riot
of colour. Follow the Cabot Trail to see a kaleidoscope of reds, browns
and yellows making a patchwork quilt over the landscape.
