Brazil
Famous for its beautiful beaches and beautiful people, Brazil is
a cosmopolitan and tropical destination. Rio, the capital of carnival,
is a glamorous city with an unparalleled setting. Inland, Toucans
fly by the Iguassú Falls and piranhas patrol the channels of the
mighty River Amazon.

Country Combinations
Brazil shares a land border with all but two South American countries. In most cases crossing points are hard to access, the majority being located deep in the Amazon Rainforest. The easiest and most popular land crossing point is into Northern Argentina via the mighty Iguassú Falls. Onward flights operate to Buenos Aires and the rest of the country. Air connections from Brazil to the rest of the continent are good; Varig has regular departures linking all the main neighbouring countries. If Brazil is your second stop and if travelling from an affected country, you may need proof of a yellow fever vaccination. Failure to produce this will prevent you from entering the country.

Climate and When to go
Brazil is a tropical country with a hot and humid climate. The primary rainy season lasts from November to April; however you should expect downpours at anytime, particularly if you are travelling to the Amazon. The north-east tends to be the driest region and is not generally affected by the seasons in the same way as the rest of the country.

Getting There
Flight connections to Brazil are generally good. Varig the national airline of Brazil, operates a daily service out of Heathrow flying overnight to São Paulo and then on to Rio de Janeiro. Brazil is one of the few remaining South American countries still serviced by British Airways. Flights operate three times a week into São Paulo and then on to Rio de Janeiro. TAP have good connections via Lisbon to alternative regional destinations. Other options include Iberia via Madrid and several American carriers operating via the USA.
