Belize & Guatemala
The world’s second largest coral reef hugs the coast of Belize.
Inland Mayan ruins dot the landscape and big cats roam the
dense jungle. Guatemala is a vibrant and fascinating country.
Experience its traditional markets, towering volcanoes and
colonial towns.

Country Combinations
Guatemala and Belize complement each other very well. An active week spent in Guatemala followed by time relaxing on a beautiful Belizean beach makes for a wonderful fortnight’s holiday. Travelling overland from Flores to San Ignacio in Belize takes between two and three hours and is straightforward. Alternatively there are daily flights from Flores direct to Belize City. For more beaches and Mayan ruins fly north from Flores to Cancún on the Mexico Caribbean coast. Mexico has an excellent internal flight network allowing you to explore this large country in more detail. Finally you may like to consider crossing over into Honduras to visit the impressive site of Copán, or heading further south to the beautiful scenery and excellent accommodation in Costa Rica.

Climate and When to go
Rainfall is heaviest during the wet season months of May to October. In the hurricane belt, travel between mid-August and the end of October is not advised. Belize is a low lying tropical country, humidity levels tend to be high throughout the year. Rainfall can also be expected along the coast at anytime. North and Western Guatemala is also hot and humid, the region around Antigua is at a higher elevation and temperatures here are not as great. If spending time in the highlands you may want to bring warmer clothes for evenings and early mornings.

Getting There
There are no direct flights from the UK into either Guatemala or Belize. Daily flights (non-direct) to Guatemala are operated by Iberia, alternatively fly with American Airlines via the USA. Travel to Belize is unfortunately not as straightforward. American Airlines do fly the route, however you will need to spend a night in Miami on the outward leg of the journey.
