Cosmopolitan and vibrant, Buenos Aires is a modern
capital city with a distinctly European feel. The architecture is striking;
there are many good museums, and plenty of green open spaces. Away from
the centre, several of the traditional neighbourhoods still remain. San
Telmo has a quaint faded appeal; the cobbled streets really come alive
on Sundays when the weekly antiques market is held. Established by Italian
immigrants, the buildings of La Boca are a profusion of colour. Synonymous
with Argentina, Eva Peron’s final resting place can be seen amongst
the grand and ornate surroundings of the Recoleta Cemetery. In the evenings
you can dine out at any number of excellent restaurants, watch a production
at the world famous Colon Theatre or sip a glass of wine and enjoy a
traditional Argentine tango.
