Wrangell has escaped many of the trappings found amongst
some of the other tourist destinations in the region. A pleasant town,
Wrangell makes a good base for exploring the nearby Prince of Wales Island;
or for heading to the high peaks inland. The third largest US Pacific
island; Prince of Wales has over 900 miles of rugged coastline. The vast
Tongass National Forest covers the island. A temperate rainforest, Tongass
is the largest national forest in the United States. Black and Brown
Bears roam the land and Flying Squirrels jump from tree to tree. Indigenous
people still live off the land and their reliance on the sea and the
inland forests is easy to see.
