Alaska’s largest and most important city. Unless
you are just cruising along the Inside Passage you will certainly end
up spending at least a couple of days here. Most internal flights route
through Anchorage, which means returning here often more than once. The
good news is that it is a city worth returning to. There are a number
of interesting ethnographical museums, plenty of parks and green spaces,
interesting markets and a friendly feel that you would not normally expect
from a principal city. Hiking trails leave the city and go up into the
surrounding mountains, where the views of Anchorage and Mount McKinley
are superb.
